Celebrating Service

During our Monsoon July, I took a rare day of actual sunshine and photographed retired service dogs at a new Ned’s Wish location on the prairie. Axel’s house is their new project: developing a safe place for retired service dogs to transition between off-duty to adoption. Their location had loads of typical prairie “props” to use in the photos, including a hay bine, hay bales, wide open spaces and weathered barn wood buildings.

Each dog had it’s own special personality traits and physical abilities, which we worked with to get the best photos for the Ned’s Wish 2026 Calendar. It was a hot and very buggy day (think swarming mosquitoes), yet volunteers all had a wonderful day working for a cause they are devoted to.

Please check out Ned’s Wish for info on how you can help retired service dogs live their best life in a well-earned retirement.
