 FAQs

  • Alberta nature is glorious. Why not include those leaves, the mountains, shapely grasses? It’s a complete package. Inspired by wildlife artists, I love to show you your dog as part of nature.

  • I have a phone full of images too! I understand that it’s fun to snap and post. However these only contain a small amount of information (color, detail) compared to a professional camera. Pro images convert well to enlargement, with all the true colors, and details.

  • Just like buying quality dog gear that lasts, the cost includes the photographer’s skills and experience. You deserve to see your dog in images that are true, right down to that cute grey mark on their face. Pro gear allows us to capture it all. Quality inks, paper and processing ensure that you can enjoy this for years to come without fading or degrading.

  • Pup Tent Photography is of the highest quality: your signature session and your art products blend together perfectly to give you the absolute best. That’s why I thoroughly get to know you and what your dog needs, to help you plan a memorable session. Your photo enhancement and digital processing is completed with the highest standards. The photography lab, for your prints and art, is the best rated and has been extensively tested. If you don’t love your experience and your art, we will make it right, without a fee.

  • No worries! I have a dog just like this. Your dog is kept safe on a long-line leash if she/he is a flight risk. We also want to respect local laws regarding dog management. Leashes can be removed in photo editing. And if your dog is wiggly, my camera has speed enough to get action images without movement.

  • Honestly, it’s never too late. Senior sessions are available and encouraged - I keep time available every week for sessions that need to happen quickly. As a zoologist, I understand the physiology of aging and the challenges that you and your dog have to face. We design a great session together, with understanding, compassion and love.

  • Sometimes we can’t plan what is going to happen with our dog’s life. Serious diagnoses or senior dogs may benefit from an end of life, or Last Season, session. There is always room for you to book if life timing is short. I understand. I’ve been there. Love, compassion and sensitivity create a beautiful experience.

  • It’s a priority. If you have a dog that is a flight-risk, or a bit iffy with other dogs around, we will plan for the safest location possible. Leashes are always great insurance - I use a 10 foot lead which allows me loads of creativity for positioning. Leashes (and sometimes collars) are removed through digital magic in your final images.

  • This will surprise you - no! We have a conversation and an understanding between all of us. I need to book in more session time to make sure we’ve got the content that you’re dreaming. More dogs = more challenges. Since I do love a good challenge, I’m up for it if we all have lots of patience together.

  • Because I have a solid background and experience with animals (being a zoologist), my expertise is more focused on dogs. It’s super easy for me to capture the doggos. In the past years I discovered that adding a few images of the owner works out well, and people do like to have these in their digital collections. That bond between dog and owner is too wonderful to pass by.

  • Congrats on the new puppy! They’re such fun. Honestly the shenanigans can be even better than the majestic poses. They’re so amusing and represent the joy and goofiness of puppyhood. Embrace the weird! If we have a chance for the artsy images, we’ll get those too.

  • During our winter session, I wear just the right amount of merino wool, down and heated socks to keep me warm. I’m moving around all the time, too, if I start to feel a chill. The most challenging item is when the fingers start to freeze, or the batteries do. The most important thing is to keep you and your dog safe and warm.

  • If we need to postpone our outdoor session due to weather, I review our options several days in advance. Otherwise, the session fee is non-refundable but conditions will be assessed for rescheduling.

  • Sure! Canadians collaborating are an awesome bunch. I love to promote my dog groomer, and I am working on cross referral business with a Canadian pet food company and a tie-in to an end-of-life tribute company. Watch my newsletter, Facebook and Instagram for details.

“We had an absolutely fantastic experience both times with Joy. We appreciated her patience with Aurora’s craziness and energy and we’re very happy with the end results.”
