Your Professional 4 Season Outdoor Dog Photographer in Calgary & Southern Alberta

At Pup Tent Photography, everything begins with understanding dogs—not just how they look, but who they are.

As a zoologist, professional dog photographer, and lifelong dog lover, I approach every session with patience and connection.

The result is more than a photograph. It’s a moment of your dog’s life. The canvas is nature. The image: your dog. The result: everlasting memories.

Because the days you share with your dog deserve to be remembered—beautifully—with professional pet photography that becomes meaningful art.

How my background in Zoology Makes a difference

Before becoming a professional photographer, I studied zoology and animal behaviour. That background shapes the way I work with dogs during every photo session.

Understanding canine body language, comfort levels, and behaviour allows me to photograph dogs patiently and respectfully. The images reflect not only what a dog is like, but who your dog is in nature.

Who I love working with

The Clients I work with the most

Many of my clients are outdoor-loving dog owners who enjoy hiking, camping, paddleboarding, and exploring Alberta’s landscapes with their dogs.

They want more than simple photos — they want artwork that reflects the joy their dogs bring to their lives.

Senior and legacy dog photography

One of the most meaningful parts of my work is photographing senior dogs and creating legacy images for families whose time with their dog may be limited.

These sessions move at the dog’s pace and focus on comfort, connection, and preserving memories that will last forever.

A person wearing a blue cap and purple long sleeve shirt with a black vest is taking a photograph of a retriever dog swimming in the water.

I don’t know of any other photographer who will literally sit in the cold Bow River, just to get a better angle of my dog playing in the water. I highly recommend Joy to capture and preserve a moment in a photograph of your dog in a natural, relaxed setting.

Who is Joy d’Argent, the outdoor dog photographer?

Loving my Alberta heritage

I’m a native Calgarian who loves nature and hiking experiences with my family and my dogs. When I’m outdoors in Alberta, I’m always taking in everything nature offers and scouting for new locations for dog photography.

My guilty pleasures include thrifting, travel and free diving. I’m expending my photography portfolio to flora (macro) and landscape photography.

I’m entranced by gorgeous sunsets and following the sun for epic lighting that creates wondrous moments.

Pomskies and blogging

When I’m not photographing client’s dogs, I’m hiking, location scouting and enjoying adventures with my pomskies Parka and Pongo. Parka has had his own Facebook and Instagram account @parkathepomsky and he’s always been my muse. He’s the dog in my logo.

Check out my blog for more information about what I’m up to. I honestly share my adventures and misadventures!

Community and collaboration in southern Alberta

Pup Tent Photography proudly supports local dog communities, rescues, and events across Southern Alberta.

I regularly collaborate with trainers, pet businesses, and dog-focused organizations who share the same commitment to exceptional care and experiences for dogs.

Several of my retired police service dog images were published in the Ned’s Wish 2026 Canadian Calendar.

I’m proud to be the Official Race Team Photographer for Southern Alberta Corgi Racers at Spruce Meadows.

Alpine photography

What would winter be without a sport? Although I’m not an alpine climber, I do tag along and love mountain adventures! I am the Chair (and judge) of the Calgary Chapter, Alpine Club of Canada. “Alpine Exposure” Photography Competition for 2026.
