Waiting On Winter

When it becomes, well, chilly outside, we can’t help but watch the skies for the inevitable snowfall. We get into the deep recesses of our closets to pull out the hats, mitts and down jackets. While we’re waiting, let’s consider: what are the benefits of having a winter photo session for our dogs? I mean, we have to keep ourselves warm, keep them warm, fight to put on dog booties…why bother?

Because winter photo sessions are enchanting and we get unforgettable, unique photos.

And because we can. I’ve done several years of winter shoots!

Convince me, you say. Here’s a list of reasons why a winter photo session can be sublime:

  1. Snow is magical. Bright, clean backdrops make your dog pop (especially black dogs) and add a crystalline sparkle. It reflects light beautifully, bringing out eyes and vivid fur.

  2. Clean, pure landscapes. Snow smooths over landscapes, removing distractions and catching only light and shadow. Your dog is the focal point, creating a simpler, more powerful image.

  3. Winter athletes. Dogs look incredible in winter. Snow highlights every leap, paw movement and playful tumble, turning photos into a spinning display of white framing the action.

  4. Cool and comfortable. No overheating concerns. Double-coated and other breeds thrive and are their happiest selves.

  5. Alberta’s winter wonderlands. Snow-covered mountains, forests, and frozen lakes create stunning, one-of-a-kind scenery. That blue, blue sky of winter - love.

  6. Wondrous opportunities! Unique seasonal photography opportunities are everywhere. Dramatic. Elegant. Timeless.

  7. Photographer availability. Few dog owners know of winter photo session splendour, and most dog photographers avoid snowy seasons. I don’t. Check my portfolio of four season dog photography here.
