SNOWDRIFT

This winter I really pushed to do snow photography. Mostly, I had access to huskies and my own dogs, because few breeds up in Canada really enjoy the winter. (Although I do run into many mixed breeds who seem to love it - they may have a bit of husky in them too?). Editing is really a challenge with snow unless you’ve memorized what the color “drift” is while you’re out there, and you can replicate it easily in Lightroom. This photo is an example of the challenges: when the sky is this blue there is sky reflection on the snow, leaving a top color of blue. Maybe I have OCD, but I really want the snow colors true (which makes it difficult when it’s a cloudy day and there is almost no color!). Next time you’re out, have a look at the snow color in footprints, on slopes, and on trails. Then imagine going home and popping your eyes out trying to replicate it on the computer!
