THE STORY BEHIND THE LOGO Part I: DOUBLE DIGITS

When I first considered a dog photography business, I noticed that most photographers use their name as the business name. Joy d’Argent Studios just wasn’t artistic, wasn’t interesting enough. Typical dog symbols have been used over and over, and so have plays on the words for parts of dogs, or bones, or especially paws. Being a creative person I thought that coming up with an orginal name was going to be crucial. Most of all, I wanted a name that didn’t bore the heck out of me and I would regret until death and beyond. Here’s where the story gets complicated.

Since I was 25 I have been challenged with arthritis. First it was fibromyalgia, which ruined my Zoologist field career and hopes of a PhD. Then, throughout the twists and turns of my life, my arthritis settled into my large toes (or surgeons call them “the great toes”). Not great for me. After fusions, surgeries, revisions, screw removals, cortisone shots, casts and crutches, I’d had enough. 14 procedures. Enough pain. Enough suffering. I opted for amputation in 2018.

How does having only 8 toes relate to the story of the logo? You’ll have to read next month’s blog to find out!
